Building Confidence in Children
Building confidence in children from an early age has incredible benefits as they grow, learn, and progress through the developmental process. In fact, it's proven that the earlier children are able to begin building their confidence in a healthy and realistic way, the better foundation they'll have as they develop emotionally, intellectually, and physically.
The Keys to Building Confidence In Children
While there are many methods and aspects to helping children build confidence (and there's no one-size-fits-all solution), there are a few key actions that primary caregivers to children can use to their advantage. Here are a few of the cornerstones to building confidence in children:
- Establish a secure routine for the children. Little ones depend on familiarity and comfort in their worlds as they learn and grow.
- Promote a positive, happy, and healthy atmosphere for children. After all, children respond and learn best from positivity.
- Allow children to make small, appropriate choices for themselves. As they begin to discover their intellectual and emotional intelligence, young children need to be able to explore the life skills of making choices, even if they're not always the best possible options.
- Praise a child's success. Children depend on positive feedback from their adult caregivers to know and embrace the fact that they are doing something right.
- Relate to children on their level. Sometimes the best way to relate to a child is to try and understand their needs from their perspectives and approach a situation from that level.
